Giving back and limiting our impact has been an important part of ANUKA from the very start, and this year I wanted to take it one step further...

I am so excited to announce that we have joined 1% For The Planet.

I have committed to giving 1% of our annual revenue back to the planet. This won’t be a one time donation, this will be a continuous commitment of all our sales, forever.

Working with raw precious materials and mined metals, as a jeweller I am making a living from the resources I take from the earth and so, in return, it is inherent that I do my bit to protect these resources.

I am jumping on board this remarkable mission with 1% For The Planet, a growing, global network of more than 3,419 businesses, supporting thousands of nonprofit partners in more than 64 countries.

WHO ARE 1% FOR THE PLANET?

The project is simple: companies profit from the resources they take from the earth and so, they should do their bit to protect those resources and give back.

The idea came to life when two businessmen met and bonded over their great love for the outdoors. Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies realised their responsibility as business owners to protect our planet and decided to give 1% of all sales back to the environment.

So far, business members of 1% For The Planet have donated over $225 million to their approved environmental nonprofits.

 

 

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you join 1% For The Planet as a business, you are committing to donate the equivalent of 1% of gross sales to support an impactful environmental nonprofit partner that align with your brand and mission, whether it's been a tough year or a profitable one, your commitment is the same.

What drew me to join 1% For The Planet was that the partnerships that you form with your chosen nonprofit go beyond simply donating your 1%. By getting involved, you have the opportunity to deliver longer-term support creating a greater impact for everyone involved.

You can choose to support your chosen nonprofit by either donating 1% of annual sales or the equivalent of 1% of sales through a combination of monetary, in-kind and approved promotional expenses, such as volunteer support.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Over the next few months I will be focusing on selecting which organisations we want to collaborate with, I will make sure to carry on sharing this journey with you, and ask for your voice in helping me to decide over on our socials. In addition to this we are working behind the scenes on our impact assessment, striving for B Corporation certification, which will further help us to continually improve and assess our impact.
